A jealous Bulawayo woman bit off a chunk of flesh from her neighbour's hand and chewed it when she found the neighbour talking to her boyfriend, a magistrate heard.

The Chronicle reports that Western Commonage provincial resident magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo heard how Sihle Nyathi, 41, of Mabutweni, flew into a rage and assaulted Precious Mhlanga, 32, before she bit off a chunk of her flesh and chewed it when she found her talking to her boyfriend, Mtabisi Ngwenya at Makhalanga Beer Garden in Mabutweni.

Prosecuting, Kingston Mkanganwi told the court that on the evening of January 12, 2014, Nyathi was drinking beer with her friend Buhlebenkosi Ncube and Ngwenya at Makhalanga Beer Garden and they were chatting.

The court heard that Nyathi arrived at the bar and she was angry when she saw Mhlanga chatting and drinking with her boyfriend.

She then confronted Mhlanga demanding to know why she was talking to Ngwenya.

"Nyathi grabbed Mhlanga by her blouse and slapped her on the face before she bit off a chunk  of flesh from her left hand and chewed it," said Mkanganwi.

Nyathi was restrained by her boyfriend and other patrons from further assaulting the victim. Mhlanga reported the matter to the police leading to Nyathi's arrest. She was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

Nyathi was convicted on her own plea of  guilty to assault. She was remanded out of custody to February 3 pending a detailed medical report from the doctors.
