'World's dumbest criminals' strike at Bakers Inn and get away with $1

In an incident that could be a serious contender for the world's dumbest criminals' award, four armed robbers pounced on an Innscor outlet in Bulawayo and stole $1.
The four man that have been described by an official at the company as "the most clueless robbers I have ever come across" struck at Bakers Inn at 15th Avenue along Plumtree road in the early hours of the morning today (Monday).
One of the four men was arrested while his partners in crime escaped with the $1.
According to investigators, the four cut through the roof of the premises that house offices, a bakery and a retail outlet.
"Security footage shows the four moving around aimlessly. They seemed clueless about what their next step was after getting into the premises. After getting a dollar from one of the offices they seemed to argue among themselves until one of them accidentally set off the alarm," said a source close to investigations.
The source said when the alarm went off, the hapless quartet first ran around in circles and then tried to hide behind a desk in one of the offices.
"After a while, thy seemed to realise the futility of their efforts and ran back to the hole they had made on the roof. With one of them still clutching the money, they helped each other out. The last man had no one to help him. The others ran off with a big knife and the $1 leaving him still inside. The security guards simply caught him and handed him over to police," said the source.
An official at Innscor said it was hard not to feel sorry for the "dumb" robber who at first tried to pretend he was drunk and had wandered into the locked premises by mistake.
"It is amazing that such mediocrity exists in the criminal world. Those four are the most clueless robbers I have ever seen. They have to be the stupidest criminals in the world. There was no chance of getting money in the offices through which they were wandering.
"
They looked like they planned the robbery at the spur of the moment and were improvising- poorly I must add- as they went along. Any self-respecting robber would know chances of getting cash are higher where there are tills or safes. I would not be very surprised if the rest of the gang are caught soon," said the official.
Innscor's corporate affairs manager Marcus Athitakis was not immediately available for comment.
