Two Bulawayo bogus cops teamed up with two other men and allegedly robbed a 97-year-old man and a nurse of their property and cash all valued at $860.
When the 97-year-old Moniwa Ndebele of Mzilikazi took the witness stand, he said Brighton Mufunda, 25, and Simon Kasirai, 28, both of Cowdray Park, approached him on Tuesday last week at around 3PM while on his way home claiming to be police officers.
He said the duo cornered him in Makokoba demanding his identification card.
"They told me they wanted to check something and then forcibly searched me and stole $94. I tried to fight back and only recovered $4," said Ndebele.
Prosecuting, Dennmore Kasenza said on January 12, the bogus cops were at it again as they pounced on Precious Ncube, a nurse at Inyathi District Hospital.
The court heard that at around 11.40AM between Lobengula Street and Connaught Avenue, an accomplice of the bogus cops initially approached Ncube and suggested that they share the money which he had picked up since she was present when he picked up the money.
Kasirai, Mufunda and another accomplice who is still at large then approached Ncube who was now walking with the other accomplice and flashed their identification cards identifying themselves as police officers, said Kasenza.
The court heard that they questioned their partner in crime about the money he had picked up. Kasirai and Mufunda then grabbed Ncube's handbag, searched it against her will and stole a pink Excel camera, Blackberry 8900 cellphone and a black Android Karbon cellphone.
The quartet then ran away with the stolen property valued at $770 and nothing was recovered.
The duo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa facing two counts of robbery.
They pleaded not guilty to both charges and were remanded in custody to January 28 for continuation of trial.
