A Lupane State University Development Studies lecturer Douglas Nyathi has made a bold statements that says South Africa which is under the blaze of xenophobic attacks should be left for South Africa nationals only and Zimbabwe cannot have more than 3 million of its people living there.
Speaking during a public discussion on xenophobia this afternoon organised by Bulawayo Agenda in Bulawayo, Nyathi said it was improper for Zimbabweans to flood South Africa.
"We cannot have three million Zimbabweans in South Africa. South Africa is for South Africans. Don't hide behind Renaissance. South Africa should not be an extension of failed states," he said.
Nyathi said boycotting South African products is not sustainable as Zimbabwe industries are not producing.
He said South Africans blame foreigners for all social ills that range from HIV, prostitution and crime.
However, he added that South Africa is creating a negative image of itself which will eventually deter investors.
Vocal human rights activist Jenny Williams said Zanu-PF has pushed people out of the country so that they won't be able to question President Robert Mugabe's misrule.
"Mugabe is responsible for the suffering of Zimbabweans in South Africa. Mugabe was in SA a week before the attacks and issued some reckless hate speech. We must hold leaders accountable for hate speech…" she said.
Contributing to the debate, Habakkuk Trust CEO Dumisani Nkomo said there could be a tightening of immigration laws in South Africa to deal with influx of immigrants.
