A CONVICTED serial robber who went on a robbing spree terrorising mostly women, was back in court on Thursday facing more charges of robbery and rape.

Brandon Ngwenya, 21, of Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo would threaten to stab his victims before robbing them of their valuables.

Ngwenya was on Wednesday convicted on his own plea of guilty to five counts of robbery and is now serving an effective three and a half jail term for the offences.

Using the same modus operandi of threatening to stab his victims with a knife, Ngwenya allegedly attacked four more women before robbing them of their belongings.

He appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze facing four counts of robbery and a rape charge.

Ngwenya was not asked to plead to the allegations and was remanded to September 3.

Maria John, appearing for the state, said on April 19, at around 10PM, Ngwenya met Sharon Ncube who had just disembarked a commuter omnibus at Old Pumula shops.

She said Ngwenya produced a knife and demanded cash but Ncube refused.

"He grabbed her purse and took $10, a Huawei and Lumnia cell phones which were in the purse," said John.

On June 15 at around 9PM, the court heard, Ngwenya met a 31-year-old woman who was on her way to Kelvin North along Masiyephambili drive.

Ngwenya is said to have proposed love to her but she ignored him and proceeded with her journey.

"Ngwenya kept following the woman and on reaching Guveya turn-off, Ngwenya caught up with the woman, grabbed her from behind and gagged her mouth. When the woman resisted he stabbed her five times in the back with a knife," John said.

The court heard how Ngwenya dragged the woman to a nearby bushy area where he further stabbed her twice on the nose.

"He forcibly removed her pants and ordered her to lie down before raping her once and disappearing into the darkness," John told the court.

A medical report exhibited in court showed that the woman sustained multiple lacerations on the body and nose.

On July 4 in Pumula East suburb, the court heard, Ngwenya approached Nomsa Ndlovu and demanded her cell phone.

Ndlovu allegedly refused and Ngwenya drew a knife and threatened to kill her.

Fearing for her life, Ndlovu surrendered her Nokia X2 cell phone and Ngwenya disappeared into the bush, the court heard.

John said on August 12, Ngwenya robbed Simelokuhle Sibanda of her Blackberry, Nokia Asha, Alcatel and Samsung Galaxy cell phones after threatening to stab her with an okapi knife.

Ngwenya was arrested on August 16 after he robbed a 15-year old girl of her MTN cell phone in a bushy area between New Magwegwe and Pumula North.

He allegedly approached the juvenile from behind, produced a knife and demanded cash and a cell phone.

Fearing for her life, the girl surrendered her cell phone, the court heard.

The total value of the stolen goods was $582 and only property worth $142 was recovered.
