Another liberation heroine dies

A LIBERATION heroine Theresa Moyo has died.
She was 82.
Moyo, who was Bulawayo provincial Deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs died at Mpilo Central Hospital on Monday.
She is expected to be buried today at Bulawayo's Provincial Heroes' Acre in Nkulumane.
Mourners are gathered at number C5154 Old Pumula suburb.
A family spokesperson, Sifiso Tshuma, described her sister's death as a huge loss to the family.
"We feel pain that we've lost a sister and a unifying force in the family. She left us while we were still in need of her love. It'll be challenging for us to raise her grandchildren. No one will fill her gap. She'll be buried tomorrow at Nkulumane Heroes' Acre. We'll first have a service at Guta RaMwari in Mpopoma suburb," said Tshuma.
Moyo did her primary education at St Mary's Mission near St Peter's village on the outskirts of Bulawayo. She completed standard six at Empandeni Mission and later became a teacher at St Mary's Mission.
She started politics at a tender age, joining the youth wing of the African National Congress until it was banned in the late 1950s.
She later became a member of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in the youth wing.
Moyo was instrumental in mobilising people to join Zapu and the liberation struggle.
After the signing of the Lancaster House Agreement, Moyo gave liberation fighters accommodation and was responsible for their upkeep.
After Independence, she was elected as Zanu-PF chairperson in the women's league for Sibambene District
In 2004, Moyo was elected as Deputy Secretary for Transport and Social Welfare in the Bulawayo province.
She is survived by two children and 11 grandchildren.
