Former Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers Union (ZISMIWU), Admore Hwarare has withdrawn a vehicle which he says he personally donated to the Sugar Industry National Employment Council (NEC).
According to Masvingo Mirror Hwarare said he withdrew the Mazda BT50 single cab vehicle after realising that it was being abused. He also said that there were some people who were against him at NEC who were now using that vehicle to fight him.
Current ZISMIWU president Freedom Madungwe also confirmed the development but he said that the union was still trying to verify whether it was indeed Hwarare who bought the vehicle or that he used union funds to procure the car.
"I can confirm that I withdrew a vehicle that I donated to the National Employment Council because it was not only being abused but my enemies in that organisation were now using it to fight me.
"What happened is we sat down as leaders in the sugar industry when I was still finance and administration chairman at the employment council and proposed that we buy a vehicle to be used by the secretary general, Clemence Muparutsa. The proposal was shot down and I personally made the donation. I have notified everyone involved that I am withdrawing the vehicle and I have given them time to challenge that move but there was no objection from anyone," said Hwarare.
Madungwe said he will meet NEC officials to trace records relating to the purchase of the car.
"It is still not clear whether Hwarare used personal funds to procure the vehicle or he used Union funds," said Madungwe.
