A MAN from Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly killing a man who was assaulting his girlfriend.
Moses Chimanisa (25) allegedly responded to a distress call from Abigail Ndlovu, saying she was being attacked by Tapela Ndebele.
Chimanisa allegedly armed himself with a bottle and a knife, rushed to Masiyephambili Drive near New Lobengula suburb where he fatally stabbed Ndebele.
Yesterday, he appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Miss Tancy Dube facing a murder charge.
The magistrate did not ask Chimanisa to plead and remanded him in custody to August 17.
Prosecuting, Ms Magret Takawira told the court that on Sunday, Chimanisa was called by his girlfriend who said she needed to be rescued from Ndebele.
"Accused got to the scene and tried to assault the now deceased with a bottle. Deceased was in the company of three friends. The bottle was snatched from him by one of the deceased's friends.
"He then pulled out a knife and stabbed Ndebele once on the left side of the chest. He pulled out the knife and threw it away before he fled from the scene," she said.
Ms Takawira said investigating officers found Chimanisa in possession of a blood stained T-shirt.
She said police established that the knife used to stab Ndebele belonged to Chimanisa.
