Transport and Infrastructural Development Minster Dr Joram Gumbo says the ministry is aware that most damaged roads have outlived their lifespan.

Dr Gumbo told the ZBC News that the state of roads around the country has been further worsened by persistently heavy rains pelting infrastructure which has already outlived its lifespan.

Dr Gumbo also said as the nation awaits the ground breaking ceremony of the Beitbridge-Harare highway, the ministry has set its eyes on national projects that will see work being carried out along the Beitbridge-Bulawayo road, the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road, the Harare-Nyamapanda road while also embarking on phase 2 of the upgrading of the Harare International Airport.

The transport ministry has also engaged contractors of the Beitbridge-Harare highway to work on a tarred road linking Rutenga to the Mozambican border post and Mwenezi to Zvishavane through Buchwa.

The envisaged Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road has also included plans to create another tarred road from West Nicholson through to Insiza.
