FOUR teenagers from Mhondoro are standing accused of teaming up with two other men to assault a drunken man leading to his death.

Gif Bello, 18, Tawanda Nyamadzapasi, 17, Tafadzwa Muzambi, 17 and Clavis Zvenyika, 18 are standing accused of ganging up with Pardon Zinyengerere, 23 and Edmore Kunonga 23, to assault Freddy Asane leading to his death.

The six are said to have found Freddy lying on the ground after having one too many at Murenha Bottle Store at around 11pm on December 5 2015.

They reportedly started assaulting him and left him for dead before they disappeared into thin air.

But luck ran out for them after investigations by police revealed that they were behind Freddy's death leading to their arrest.

They were taken to the Harare magistrates' court charged with culpable homicide.

The six denied the charges when they appeared before magistrates Noel Mupeiwa saying they only tried to help him when they saw him lying on the ground.

But State counsel Constance Ngombengombe alleges that on December 5 2015 the six were enjoying music at Murenha Bottle Store under Chief Nherera in Mhondoro-Mubayira.

They reportedly left the watering hall after it closed at around 11pm.

Whilst they were on their way home, they spotted Freddy lying drunk on the ground along Kodhani-Mubayira road.

Accusations are that Pardon, Edmore and Clavis started assaulting Freddy and pouring some sand on his head.

Gift and Tawanda are said to have urinated in Freddy's face before Tafadzwa picked a stone and struck him on the face leaving him unconscious.

It is said that they fled from the scene.

Memory Gwatidzo is said to have spotted Freddy lying on the ground and went to inform the police who took him to Chikoro Clinic where he was referred to St Michael's Hospital.

Freddy was further referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was admitted until December 27 of the same year.

Upon being discharged from hospital Freddy was then taken by his sister Elizabeth Kalani to Doxford Farm in Mazowe where he later died after two days.

His body was then taken to Concession Hospital before being referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital for a postmortem.

The doctor discovered that Freddy had died of meningitis, subdural haematoma and head trauma.

Investigations by police led to the six's arrest.
