7 SA Home Affairs officials arrested for fraud

Durban - Seven people, including three Department of Home Affairs officials, have been arrested for fraud and contravention of the Immigration Act and Identification Act, the Hawks said on Wednesday.
Hawks members from Durban Commercial Crime unit together with the Home Affairs Counter Corruption Team made the arrests, Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said.
Authorities discovered irregularities in the issuing of late birth certificates at Mzimkhulu, Bulwer and Ulundi Home Affairs offices.
They thereafter embarked in an operation from mid-August to September 1 leading to the arrest of the seven suspects.
The arrested suspects, Snothile Buthelezi, 26, Sibulelo Malanda, 49, Buyelaphi Stubchen, 57, Nkosinathi Madlala, 31, Nokuphiwa Fihlane, 26, Nowinile Sikhosana, 34 and Lindiswa Mkhafula, 28 briefly appeared in the Durban Special Commercial Crime Court on Thursday, August 31.
They were granted R2 000 bail each with the case postponed to November 3.
Buyelaphi appeared on Monday, and her case was postponed to October 5.
