15 March 2018 - Media Centre yesterday finalised this week's Citizen Journalism training workshops in Bindura, Mashonaland Central with Citizen Journalists being called on to practice ethical reporting in the forthcoming general elections.
Media Centre is holding refresher training workshops in marginalized communities of Zimbabwe as part of their mandate of providing knowledge to citizen journalists in these areas and also as a corporate social responsibility of promoting citizen engagement in news making and reporting in Zimbabwe through promotion of citizen journalism.
The event which was held at the Institute for Young Women's Development (IYWD) offices in Bindura was attended by citizen journalists based in Bindura and was facilitated by Mr John Masuku, accompanied by Mr Earnest Mudzengi and Mr Bekezela Gumbo, both representing Media Centre.
Speaking in Harare yesterday, Media Centre assistant Programs Officer, Mr Stanford Nyatsanza said the training workshops are aimed at equipping citizen journalists with the much needed exposure and knowledge to cover the forthcoming elections.
"Focus is based on the evaluation of their skills pertaining to ethical reporting, dealing with fake news, effective citizen journalism on social media, understanding election monitoring and reporting and others." said Nyatsanza.
Media Centre is expected to spread its outreach program to other parts of the country in the forthcoming months.
