Preliminary work for the much-anticipated dualisation of the Harare-Beitbridge road has started with Geiger International the Austrian company that won the tender now on ground.
The route alignment for the dualisation has already been defined and currently, engineers and surveyors are conducting topographic surveys to determine centre line and control points along the new carriageway and place tags, a process expected to be complete before the second quarter of this year.
Geiger International representative Engineer Cuthbert Mashanda said his company is going to undertake the dualisation of the Harare-Beitbridge road in a professional manner and above that the company is going to employ Zimbabweans.
Finalisation of the project is expected by 2021 with a funding package set at close to $1 billion.
The initiative is widely expected to boost trade volumes with South Africa and other neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
