HARARE - All is not well in the Orchestra Ndozvo Band fronted by pint-sized comedian-cum-musician Freddy Manjalima aka Kapfupi.

The band's tour of Midlands province last week was characterised by bickering and fist-fighting. The violence started in Norton and band members were still at each other's throats when they reached the Midlands province.

According to band members, the bone of contention is Kapfupi's plan to include his bodyguard Absolom Kupara into the Epworth-based outfit.

The friction degenerated into a fight after Kupara lost a camera while the group was on its way to Kwekwe and accused band members of theft.

Sources said Kapfupi was bitter with the group as he was pressing members to return the camera and this did not go down well with the Orchestra Ndozvo members.

The Mai Nga hit-maker reportedly threatened to boycott the trip if the camera was not recovered and band members reacted by physically assaulting Kapfupi and Kupara.

Band manager Sam Manjalima confirmed the development.

"Kupara only wants to destroy our band. His relationship with Kapfupi is not healthy but Kapfupi is failing to notice it," said Sam.

Sam accused Kupara of influencing Kapfupi to fire the entire band and recruit new members.

"We will not allow a stranger to destroy the band. Where was he when we formed the band? He was in Cape Town, South Africa when we were building the Orchestra Ndozvo," said Sam.

Popular music promoter Patson Chimboza aka Chipaz in the music industry is mediating to ease tensions.

"We have finalised the issue and we urge Kapfupi to put his heart at work. He was not supposed to threaten to boycott the tour over the camera issue. We have advised Kapfupi to have a second thought about his bodyguard. He should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of including him into the band," said Chipaz.

Efforts to get a comment from Kapfupi were fruitless as his mobile phone was not available at the time of going to print.
