CHOLERA death toll has risen to 31 while efforts to contain the scourge are being made.

A total of 5961 cases had been reported as of yesterday, the Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo said yesterday.

Of the 31 deaths, 30 occurred in Harare while one was reported in Masvingo.

"Budiriro and Glen View are the mainly affected areas and we are doing all we can to stop the spreading of the outbreak.

"We are encouraging all the citizens to take part in preventing the disease in their areas.

"Good hygiene practices must be an everyday conduct so as to make our country cholera free and avoid cholera deaths," he said.

The health ministry said it was investigating a case in Bulawayo suspected to be of cholera.

"Tests have been conducted and we wait for the results.

"We are not sure but the results will confirm whether the suspicion is correct or not," he said.

The minister said he was delighted that vendors were complying with the law which would go a long way in helping to control cholera.

"The police are well enforced and the vendors are doing as they are told," he said.
