Man (26) fatally axes mum

A Twenty-six year-old Nkayi man, Zamelihle Moyo has been arrested for fatally axing his own mother.
Police said the deceased, Thandiwe Moyo, left home to fetch water from a near-by river through a foot path, she reportedly met the accused carrying an axe which he used to strike her on the head and died on the spot.
It is not yet clear why the accused attacked his own mother.
After committing the offence, Zamelihle rushed to Douglas Nkomo's homestead carrying his blood dripping axe and informed him that he has killed his mother.
Nkomo is a neighbour watch committee member.
The accused volunteered his hands for the handcuffing and was taken to Gwelutshena police station.
Police at Gwelutshena discovered that the accused has a mental illness background and medical records were held by the police. The body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for postmortem. Investigations are still in progress.
