Villagers in court over witchraft allegations

TWO Guruve villagers were yesterday arraigned before Guruve magistrates courts for assulting a neighbour whom they accused of bewitching their son.
Pauline Maparuza (45) and Conrad Chigombe (20) both from Chihwe village in Guruve p leaded guilty to an assault before magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.
Mugwagwa sentenced the duo to 30 days in jail and suspended the sentence on condition that they pay $3000 each.
Prosecutor Albert Charewa told the court that on January 2 the duo approached their neighbour Juliet Nyamaseve accusing her of bewithching their son.
They ordered Nyamuseve to escort them to prophets for cleansing but she refused.
The pair started assaulting the complainant with wooden logs and open hands.
Nyamuseve ran for her dear life and locked herself in a kitchen hut until the convicts left.
She opened her door and dashed to the police station to file a police report which led to the arrest of the two.
