The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has announced that it has accredited 488 local observers, 18 foreign observers, and 4 local journalists for the upcoming Elections activities as at 11 March 2022.
Accreditation is being done in Harare and Bulawayo, ZEC said.
Responding to the statistics Professor Jonathan Moyo accused ZEC of delegating its duty to the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation.
"The big problem with this is that, contrary to s239(i) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and s. 40G, 40H, and 40I of the Electoral Act, ZEC has in fact, as it has done in previous elections, illegally delegated the accreditation of election observers and journalists to the CIO!" Moyo posted on Twitter.
When asked why he did not raise the issues when he was in government, the former government spin doctor said, "It is right to raise issues from experience. What's funny & tragic is that people start reading these basic things only when we tweet them, yet we have been raising questions about the illegal role of the CIO in the conduct of elections in Zim from as far back as 32 years ago!"
Zimbabwe is set to have a by-election contest on March 26 after Douglas Mwonzora suspended Members of Parliament and Councillors who joined the then MDC-Alliance.
