Sue Nyathi nominated for AU20 Artistes and Writers Residency Programme in Ghana

BULAWAYO-born fiction author Sukoluhle "Sue" Nyathi has been nominated for the AU20 "Our Africa, Our Future" Writers Residency Programme to be held in Ghana from tomorrow to November 28.
The Writers Residency Programme, organised by the Library Of Africa and The African Diaspora (LOTAD) will see Nyathi being part of a team of five writers from the African continent who will be tasked to interpret this year's theme in a broad and expansive way across a selected genre, including fiction, narrative non-fiction and poetry.
The work will be published in an e-book anthology to be released in early 2023.
Joining Nyathi will be Nour Kamel (Egypt), TJ Benson (Nigeria), Musih Tedji Xaviere (Cameroon) and Tony Mochama (Kenya).
The residency programmes are a crucible of ideas, debate, and literary production. They bring together writers from across Africa and the Diaspora, at all stages of their writing careers and across genres, in the community to bring out the best in their thinking and their writing.
LOTAD's mission is to celebrate and champion Africa's rarely acknowledged contribution to the global literary canon.
In an interview, Sue Nyathi said it delights her to be selected and it affirms her work.
"I am delighted and excited to have been selected out of a pool of 400 applicants. It truly is an honour and affirmation of my work. Not only am I representing Zimbabwe, but the Southern African region. Each of the five selected writers represents each geographic region of Africa.
"I have always been passionate about development economics and finance. I am an investment analyst by profession, but a writer by passion so I am looking to lend a voice to the AU20 celebration on authoring new narratives for the continent. Creatively speaking, it is an honour to be given the spotlight," she said.
Nyathi said the residency programme will afford her the chance to network with like-minded personnel and this will help in the exchange of ideas.
"This platform will also give me an opportunity to engage with other African writers on the continent, which I am looking forward to. Residences of this nature are always great for constructive engagement and fostering new networks and exchanging ideas," said the 2022 Roil Bulawayo Arts Award (BAA) Outstanding Ambassador nominee.
Nyathi's authorship career has seen her pen novels inclusive of The Polygamist (2012), The GoldDiggers (2018) and A Family Affair (2020). Her hand is also seen in Black Tax (2019) and Hair (2019). Readers can look forward to her latest release, ‘An Angel's Demise' (2022).
Beyond her own novels, she has contributed to anthologies like ‘Black Tax: A burden or Ubuntu' (2019) and ‘Hair: Unpicking and Weaving stories of Identity' (2019) She has also edited an anthology titled, ‘When Secrets Become Stories, Women Speak Out' (2021).
