EX Zipra war veteran Max Mkandla has challenged the Minister of War Veterans Christopher Mutsvangwa to intervene and assist the recently vetted war collaborators and war veterans who did not get vetted in the first phase to get their first payment.
This comes in the wake of concerns that many have died while others are critically ill and may die before they get their money.
"We first of all congratulate Minister Mutsvangwa on his recent appointment as War veterans minister. He is a minister to deal with the welfare of war veterans including the war collaborators. Can the minister be reminded that the ex-detainees and war veterans and war collaborators who participated in the liberation struggle who all fall under the defence ministry and were recently vetted have not been paid their money to date," Mkandla said.
"Its now seven months since they wee vetted and they have not been paid anything. May he as a minister take action to see to it that they are paid up especially newly vetted one. Most of the affected are in the |Zipra side who failed to be vetted in the first phase. They wee recently vetted but still they have not received their money."
Mkandla said besides that, since they were recently vetted, some have even died before they are paid while some are sick and hospitalised without money to settle their medical bills.
"These people need to be paid as a matter of urgency. Lets stop politicking on this. This issue needs action. There was a lot of talk about it ahead of elections but there after the political leadership is silent or is it tat they were just politicking?" he said.
