Local authorities should uphold the freedom of worship as enshrined in the Constitution, Vice President Kembo Mohadi has stated.

Speaking at the Vapostori and MaZion for ED National Prayer event, which coincided with the "Thank You Rally" organized by Zanu-PF Harare Province in Chitungwiza, VP Mohadi emphasized that opposition-led councils must cease the unwarranted eviction of churches from their worship sites.

He assured that the government would intervene to ensure that churches, particularly Apostolic sects, are provided with land for worship.

"His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, guarantees your freedom of worship and ensures every church has a place to worship," he said.

"The President reiterated his commitment on June 3, 2023. His Government will facilitate Vapostori and MaZion with places for worship, in line with our Constitution. Chiefs across the country will allocate land for worship, reflecting our Government's dedication to respecting its people and their beliefs."

VP Mohadi expressed regret over reports of unnecessary evictions of Vapostori by city councils, particularly those led by opposition parties.

"Opposition councillors often target Vapostori, seizing their shrines and places of worship while promoting land barons and corruption. City councils must respect the freedom of religion in Zimbabwe. I am pleased that you voted for Zanu-PF councillors in many rural and urban councils during the harmonized elections."
