Zimbabwe to set up vape factory

Zimbabwe is poised to become a regional hub in the tobacco value chain with the establishment of a multi-billion dollar vape production factory. This facility will extract nicotine from tobacco stalks, leaves, and flowers for use in non-smoking alternatives.
E-cigarettes, or vaping, involve inhaling nicotine from an electronic device. The extracted nicotine will be dissolved in suitable liquids for vaping, adding significant value to the country's tobacco, which is the fourth largest exporter globally.
Once operational, the factory is expected to also process tobacco from neighboring countries, including Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. The investor's board met in China on Friday to finalize the plans for the factory, which is tentatively set to be located in Karoi, Hurungwe, the largest tobacco-producing district in Zimbabwe.
Former Zimbabwean Ambassador to China, Christopher Mutsvangwa, announced at a Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting in Chinhoyi that plans for the factory are at an advanced stage.
"There is going to be a very big industry to extract nicotine from the by-products after selecting the premium tobacco leaves," said Mutsvangwa.
