The justice delivery system in Zimbabwe is set to improve following the swearing-in of 12 High Court judges by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.

The ceremony, held at the Constitutional Court in Harare, included the appointment of Justice Garainesu Mawadze as Deputy Judge President of the High Court, assisting Justice Mary Zimba-Dube.

The new High Court judges are Justices Faith Mushure, Ngoni Nduna, Regis Demure, Phillipa Phillips, Gibson Mandaza, Joel Mambara, Naison Chivayo, Vivian Ndlovu, Sijabuliso Siziba, and Mpokiseng Dube. Additionally, Justice Maxwell Kaitano was appointed to the Administrative Court.

With the High Court now having 68 judges and over 80 judges across all courts, Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Secretary Walter Chikwanha expressed confidence that the appointments would enhance efficiency, particularly addressing shortages in provinces like Bulawayo.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi emphasized that the appointments, approved by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, would expedite case resolution and improve access to justice. He also highlighted the government's commitment to gender equality in the judiciary.

President of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Rumbidzai Matambo, welcomed the new appointments, which include three women judges. She stressed the importance of timely justice delivery and called for more female representation in future judicial appointments.

The ceremony was attended by prominent judicial and governmental figures, underscoring the significance of these appointments in strengthening Zimbabwe's court system.
