Zimbabwe is prepared to join the BRICS group, which will facilitate freer trade with other nations, stated Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri at a BRICS meeting in Vladivostok, Russia. She emphasized BRICS' role in promoting a new economic world order and countering Western dominance through a model based on non-alignment, mutual respect, and common progress.
Zimbabwe sees BRICS as a platform for economic growth and balanced global relations.
BRICS, formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China in 2009, and joined by South Africa in 2010, is expanding to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The group's core objectives include eradicating poverty, tackling unemployment, and promoting inclusive economic growth.
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri highlighted BRICS' efforts to shift from a unipolar to a multipolar world, aligning with Zimbabwe's and Russia's visions of universal freedom and cooperation. She stressed Zimbabwe's commitment to international peace, security, and addressing global threats such as geopolitical shifts, unilateralism, armed conflicts, climate change, and cyber insecurity. She also acknowledged the support from the Russian Federation and other allies in defense and security, underscoring Africa's significant role in UN peacekeeping missions.
