Police in Midlands Province have confirmed the death of Tyson Matarise (36) after he was attacked by a gang of eight unknown men on June 15 around 8 PM at Kwadhiva tuckshop in the Dhija Mining Area of Shurugwi.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko reported that Matarise was drinking beer with others when the gang, led by a suspect known only as Mdhimbani and armed with machetes and Columbia knives, began assaulting him.
Matarise initially managed to escape but was pursued and caught by the gang, who then stabbed him multiple times until he collapsed from severe bleeding. A well-wisher took Matarise to ZRP Shurugwi to report the incident, and he was subsequently referred to Shurugwi District Hospital. Matarise succumbed to his injuries on June 16 while receiving treatment.
Inspector Mahoko has appealed for any information that could lead to the arrest of the gang members to aid the ongoing police investigation.
