Two employees of the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) in Harare, Natalie Mazhero (26) and Chiraswa Nyagumbo (44), faced charges of criminal abuse of office for their involvement in improperly registering a vehicle. They appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa and were remanded out of custody until July 5.
The complainant in the case was Elizabeth Machigere, acting deputy registrar of the licence section at CVR. Mazhero, who serves as a dispatch clerk, allegedly entered a fraudulent certificate of competency for Richard Runyararo Mahomva, a director in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, on March 1, 2024, at the CVR Harare depot.
Nyagumbo, a licensing officer at CVR, was accused of verifying the same fraudulent certificate in the system, an act that goes against her duties as a dispatch officer.
