Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has expanded its 'Kancane Kancane' smartphone credit scheme to include civil servants, enabling them to acquire new smartphones without upfront deposits.
Kezito Makuni, Econet's Chief Operations Officer, highlighted the initiative's significance in enhancing government workforce technology proficiency and productivity.
Civil servants can select from a variety of smartphones, including brands like iPhones, Samsung, Huawei, and Nokia, and conveniently make monthly payments through the Salary Service Bureau (SSB). To participate, interested employees need to visit an Econet Shop with their national ID, current payslip, and proof of residence.
The scheme, originally launched to boost smartphone penetration in Zimbabwe (currently around 52%), aims to facilitate broader access to digital services and enhance digital literacy nationwide.
