A man posing as a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officer, Holman Mapinduka, has landed in legal trouble after allegedly defrauding a villager of cash.
Mapinduka appeared in the Plumtree Magistrates Court yesterday, where Magistrate Joshua Nembaware granted him bail set at $50 and postponed the case to November 18.
The prosecution, led by Selestine Madziwa, claimed that between October 1 and November 1, Mapinduka approached the complainant, Delan Gwinyai Rutsitso, repeatedly demanding cash under false pretenses. He allegedly assured Rutsitso that the payments would secure "protection" from the President's office.
Rutsitso initially complied, paying various amounts, but became suspicious when Mapinduka asked for an additional $900, stating it was required to "appease his superiors." This raised Rutsitso's suspicions, prompting him to file a police report, which ultimately led to Mapinduka's arrest.
