Four Rushinga based armed robbers were sentenced to 21 years in jail after robbing a school headmaster of his car before being involved in an accident with the stolen vehicle.

Mike Humbasha (28), Winston Sekerani (19),Cuthbert Madombi (20) and Kudzai Denhere will serve 21 years each behind bars after being sentenced by Bindura regional magistrate Amos Mbobo.

Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that the quartet  targeted headmasters in the Rushinga area On 18 July 2023 and at 2200hrs, they broke into Givemore Chiparaushe's homestead and they found the complainant's  wife and daughter at home. They produced two firearms and threatened to shoot them if they made any noise.

The robbers tied them with electric cables and assaulted them all over their bodies with booted foot, knobkeries and wooded sticks.

They also attempted to rape them. They ransacked the house and went away with various accessories such as speakers, a tv set, clothes, cellphones, laptops and handbags.

The robbers also stole the complainant's Nissan X-Trail.

On the same night, they proceeded to Daniel Mwale's homestead. He is a headmaster at Magaranhewe Primary School, Rushinga.

Upon arrival they  broke into his house and found him asleep with his wife. They pointed firearms at  them and severely assaulted them and kept demanding for cash, insisting that they had seen the complainant withdrawing money at a local bank.

They made off with some cash and cellphones.

Their luck ran out the following day when one of the accused persons was involved in a road traffic accident in Mbare whilst driving the stolen vehicle. He was pictured while wearing the complainant's stolen clothes. The vehicle was impounded by the police. Further investigations then showed that the vehicle had been robbed.
