In an unprecedented move, over 12,000 first-year students from various colleges across the country were stopped from writing a High Education Examination Council (Hexco) examination on Friday following the widespread leak of the Entrepreneurial Skills Development (ESD) paper.
The examination, scheduled for Friday morning, was reportedly circulated on WhatsApp on Thursday night, raising concerns over its integrity.
A lecturer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development, describing the situation as chaotic.
"Yes, I can confirm that first-year students at various tertiary institutions were stopped from writing the Entrepreneurial Skills Development examination," the lecturer said.
According to the lecturer, students were already seated for the exam when they were informed of the decision to cancel it.
The leak has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for Hexco to strengthen its examination security systems. Many students expressed frustration over the incident, fearing it could disrupt their academic progress.
Hexco authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but it is expected that the examination will be rescheduled. Meanwhile, stakeholders are urging an investigation into the leak to ensure accountability and prevent future breaches.
