Our society is corrupt, says Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa sensationally claimed and confirmed that the entire society is deeply corrupt, but arrest of all criminals is imminent.
Speaking during the 2024 Zimbabwe Local Government Association Annual Indaba in Harare today, Mnangagwa also reminded councillors to continuously embrace initiatives which complement the national development agenda.
"Meanwhile, I am deeply concerned by the cases of corruption in the local government space and the entire society. Those perpetrating such acts must face the full wrath of our country's law. Let us root out this menace from our society," Mnangagwa warned.
President Mnangagwa has also urged local authorities to scale up implementation of people-centred projects and programmes when crafting the 2025 development plans and budgets.
"In crafting 2025 development plans and budgets, local authorities are called upon to scale up the implementation of people-centred projects and programmes. The devolution and decentralisation agenda is anchored in community participation and project ownership at the grassroots level. Both urban and rural councils must deliver," Mnangagwa remarks.
"Initiatives such as the Nhimbe/Ilima Road Rehabilitation Programme which is underpinned by our rich cultural heritage, values of collaboration, unity, hard work and pooling of resources must continue to play a major role in our national development agenda. There is no room for the sense of entitlement and silo mentality," Mnangagwa warned.
"My government is, thus, committed to ensuring the construction of decent and safe work spaces. These will be accompanied by the establishment of critical infrastructure that encourages involvement of women and the youth," Mnangagwa added.
Mhondoro-Mubayira's ward 27 councillor, Maxwell Zinyengere said that, it is the duty of all councillors to heed the call by President Mnangagwa to desist from corruption while ensuring involvement of all community membership through grassroots engagement.
"We have taken note of the President's call to end corruption at all levels and therefore promise to execute our duties in accordance with local governance standards and procedures," Zinyengere said.
"I am happy that our fellow councillors have been performing in accordance with local governance expectations. It is therefore our duty to maintain expected morals and ethics when executing our assigned duties amongst our wards," Zinyengere said.
