Armed robbers steal over US$36,000 in Harare heist

A company in Vainona, Harare, lost US$36,260 in a daring armed robbery early Friday morning, where three unidentified men stormed the premises, attacked a security guard, and made away with cash and valuables.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which took place at around 2:15 AM, and said they are investigating the matter.
According to the ZRP statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the suspects were armed with pistols and overpowered the security guard on duty. They then broke into the company offices, where they stole: US$36,260 in cash from a safe, two laptops, and a Bluetooth speaker.
The suspects remain unidentified, and police have urged members of the public with information to assist in tracking down the culprits.
In a separate incident, police arrested Bright Chikomo in connection with a robbery in Mabvuku, where he and an accomplice allegedly attacked a couple and stole US$30.
The suspect was reportedly identified by the victim during the robbery, leading to his apprehension. Police recovered a knife from Chikomo's trousers during the arrest.
Authorities revealed that his accomplice, known only as Digital, is still at large.
The ZRP has called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station. Both cases underscore the rising concern over violent crime in urban areas, prompting renewed calls for enhanced security measures at businesses and homes.
