Gogo Tarima Muzariri, the mother of the late Livingstone Maynard Muzariri, former director-general of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), has passed away at the age of 112. She died on Tuesday, at a time when a bitter family dispute over her son's estate continues to escalate.

Muzariri was admitted to Karanda Hospital in Mt Darwin, where she was being treated for a medical condition after suffering a seizure last week. Family member Lovemore Muzariri revealed that Gogo Muzariri had been in a deteriorated state, unable to receive proper medical care due to a lack of funds.

“We had to take her to Karanda Hospital last week after she suffered a seizure. Unfortunately, we failed to raise funds to get her proper medication. The sad reality is that Uncle Maynard used to take care of her very well when he was alive. In fact, she had a nurse aid who was dedicated to looking after her,” Lovemore said.

However, after Maynard Muzariri's death, his widow, Esther, and their son, Tatenda, have been embroiled in a fierce battle over the vast wealth left behind, which includes millions of US dollars in property investments, primarily in the Borrowdale district of Harare. According to family sources, Esther took control of the wealth immediately after her husband's death and severed ties with his extended family, leaving Gogo Muzariri without the same level of care she had previously received.

"After Maynard passed away, his wife and son started fighting for the wealth, and no one was looking after Gogo," Lovemore said.

Gogo Muzariri, who had several children, saw the passing of six of them during her lifetime. Maynard Muzariri, as the breadwinner, had been the pillar of the family, and after his death, the disputes over the estate have led to strained relationships among family members.

Efforts to contact Tatenda and Esther for comment were unsuccessful. Tatenda declined to speak to the press, while Esther was unavailable.

The estate battle has taken a legal turn, with Esther being called in for questioning regarding the sale of stands from the estate before it has been legally dissolved.

As Gogo Muzariri's death marks the end of an era for the family, the ongoing dispute over her son's estate has left unresolved tensions and further complications for the inheritance. The situation remains tense as the Muzariri family continues to navigate the complex legal and emotional ramifications of their feud.
