Police in Matabeleland South province have launched a manhunt for Richard Moyo, a 20-year-old man from Makasani village in Nkayi, who is wanted in connection with the murder of his colleague at Oak 3 Mine in Shangani, Fort Rixon.
The incident occurred on December 5 at the mine, located at plot number 34, Truvelo, when a dispute over unsafe mining practices escalated into a violent altercation between Moyo and Ishmael Ngozo, a 23-year-old from Bona village 1, Inyathi.
According to Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena, the two men were sitting by a fire when an argument broke out over concerns raised by Ngozo about unsafe practices at the mine. The disagreement led to a physical fight, which was broken up by one of their colleagues. However, Moyo, apparently still enraged, returned to the scene, picked up a metal bar, and struck Ngozo on the left side of his head.
Ngozo collapsed to the ground after the blow. Moyo fled the scene immediately, leaving his colleague injured. The mine's owner was alerted, and Ngozo was rushed to Gweru General Hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, Ngozo succumbed to his injuries on December 9, four days after the attack.
The incident has since been reported to the police, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may lead to Moyo's arrest. Inspector Mangena has called on anyone with details about Moyo's whereabouts to assist with the investigation, as the suspect remains at large.
The tragic death of Ishmael Ngozo has shocked the community, and authorities are working diligently to bring the responsible party to justice.
