Mnangagwa calls for unity in ZANU-PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for renewed commitment and unity within ZANU-PF as the party sets its sights on the upcoming 2025 elections. Speaking at the 380th Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare on December 19, the President reflected on the successes of 2024 while addressing challenges that could potentially threaten the party's internal cohesion.

In his address, President Mnangagwa praised the significant achievements of the year, particularly in infrastructure development, economic growth, and capacity building. He highlighted key milestones, including the commissioning of the Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Road, the expansion of Varun Beverages' operations, and the launch of a major US$1 billion energy project. The President stressed the importance of utilizing Zimbabwe's abundant natural resources to modernize and industrialize the economy.

"Our national development philosophy, Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo, is now deeply embedded in the national consciousness," he stated, underscoring the importance of national unity in sustaining development efforts.

Addressing concerns regarding internal party unity, President Mnangagwa condemned the growing misuse of social media for airing internal disputes and disagreements. "It is disheartening to note the unbecoming levels of mud-slinging and counter-revolutionary tendencies on social media," he remarked, urging party members to adhere to the party's constitution and to engage in proper consultation processes to resolve conflicts within the ranks.

The President also commended the Hebert Chitepo School of Ideology for its role in fostering patriotism and Pan-Africanism among Zimbabwean youth, reinforcing the importance of ideological grounding in building a cohesive and forward-looking party.

Looking to the future, President Mnangagwa emphasized the need for continued agricultural productivity in the face of unpredictable weather patterns. He urged communities to maximize output during the current season and to remain vigilant against challenges posed by climate change.

One of the President's key announcements was the imminent launch of the Land Tenure Implementation Programme, which aims to consolidate the successes of the land reform initiative. This programme seeks to enhance land ownership, improve access to financing, and boost agricultural productivity, contributing to Zimbabwe's long-term economic growth.

On regional matters, President Mnangagwa expressed solidarity with Mozambique and Malawi, both of which were recently affected by Tropical Cyclone Chido. He reaffirmed Zimbabwe's commitment to regional cooperation on climate resilience and disaster mitigation efforts, highlighting the importance of working together to address shared challenges.

The President also extended congratulations to Namibia's SWAPO party and President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on their election victory, expressing Zimbabwe's intention to strengthen ties with regional liberation movements.

As the festive season approaches, President Mnangagwa urged ZANU-PF members to celebrate Unity Day and Christmas, reflecting on their dedication to serving the people of Zimbabwe. "Let us enter 2025 with optimism and determination to achieve even greater success for our nation," he concluded, calling on the party to unite and work towards a prosperous future.
