Gvt shuts KidsMart over counterfeit goods
3 hrs ago | Views
There is no Christmas joy after the national task-force on anti-smuggling descended on Bulawayo's Kids Mart outlet this Monday and seized counterfeit goods.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a member of the task-force alleged that almost ninety percent of the merchandise on displays or aisles failed litmus tests for both tax compliance and quality.
"The outlet had almost all it's products declared health hazard and there was no proper documentation that's why we had to shut business therefore to protect customers and consumers from being shortchanged," the member said.
"The shop has been closed and scores of customers were stranded outside in anticipation that they may provide proper documentation, but we ascertain that they are all fake products on displays," the member added.
"The shop did not have a ZIMRA Tax Clearance certificate and all goods were smuggled into the country and [it] was operating without a license," the member added.
Efforts to get a comment from KidsMart owners were futile as their phone was not reachable.
