A Triangle woman, Blessing Chiromonye (25), has appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrates Court facing murder charges after allegedly drowning her two young daughters in a water canal. She was remanded in custody to January 23, 2025.
According to court documents, Chiromonye is accused of throwing her four-year-old and eight-year-old daughters into the main water canal in Triangle on January 8, 2025. Tragically, both children drowned.
Chiromonye reportedly attempted to end her own life by jumping into the same canal but was thrown out by the force of the water. The court heard that after the incident, she went home, changed her clothes, and attempted to flee.
Her escape plan was thwarted when the driver of a commuter omnibus she boarded was tipped off about the events. A police report was subsequently filed, leading to her arrest.
Authorities have described the incident as deeply disturbing, with investigations ongoing. The case has drawn widespread attention, sparking discussions on mental health and support systems within communities.
Chiromonye remains in custody as the court prepares to deliberate on the charges against her.
