Renowned Zimbabwe-born, South Africa-based veteran actor Luthuli Dlamini has returned to Bulawayo, where his acting career began 30 years ago, to mentor and train aspiring young actors.

Speaking in an interview this week, Dlamini said he wanted to reconnect with the city's film industry and understand where the youth stand in terms of acting.

"I will be conducting acting lessons from the 29th of this month (this past Wednesday) so that young people can get an opportunity to learn about the film industry," he said.

Reflecting on the past, Dlamini noted that 30 years ago, acting was not considered a viable career path, but today it has become a lucrative profession.

"Back then, film acting was underestimated and mostly pursued by those with a passion. But now, it is a full-fledged career that generates substantial income," he said.

Dlamini's decision to conduct acting lessons was inspired by his interaction with students from Sizane High School, who expressed a strong interest in the film industry.

"I am willing to share my experience in the industry with young people to help them refine their skills and contribute to the growth of Zimbabwe's film sector," he said.

He highlighted that the film industry globally has become a major source of employment and revenue, and he hopes to guide young actors on how to navigate and access opportunities within the industry.

"I want to explore and investigate the state of the film industry in Zimbabwe and assist young actors in understanding how to generate income from it," he added.

Dlamini started his acting journey in Bulawayo, performing in theatre productions at Camel School, including a play called Baobab Tree. He believes that while his foundation is in theatre, his transition to television has helped him gain a broader perspective on the industry.

"The industry is evolving with digitalisation, and I want to help the youth understand how to modernise their craft for the benefit of the nation," he said.

The veteran actor hopes his return will inspire young talent and contribute to the revival of Zimbabwe's film industry.

"The only way to improve the film industry is when experienced actors come back and share their skills with the community," he said.

Dlamini has featured in some of South Africa's most popular television productions, including Scandal, Cold Father, The Coconuts, and Zalo.
