Ghanaian midfielder Paul Orape was one of the new faces in Highlanders' first team at the club's Family Fun Day on Sunday, signaling a potential addition to the squad ahead of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

The 22-year-old, who has previously played for Essa Areekode FC and Luca Sporting Club in India, was present at the Highlanders clubhouse but was unwell and did not participate in the match against the club's legends and former players.

Orape is among several players Highlanders are evaluating as they strengthen their squad under head coach Kelvin Kaindu. Confirmed new signings include Marlvin Hativagoni and 19-year-old winger Mafious Chiweta, who joins from ZIFA Southern Region League side Ajax Hotspurs.

The highlight of the Family Fun Day was a friendly match in which the current Highlanders squad defeated Bosso legends and former players 5-2. Goals from Marvin Sibanda, Brighton Ncube, McKinnon Mushore, Prince Ndlovu, and Never Rauzhi secured the victory for Kaindu's side. Meanwhile, Mkhokheli Dube and Bekithemba Ndlovu found the net for the legends' team.

The event provided an opportunity for fans to interact with past and present Highlanders players while also serving as a fundraiser. Highlanders communications officer Nozibelo Maphosa hailed the day as a success.

"The main purpose of the Family Fun Day was to raise funds for the club, but just as importantly, it provided an opportunity for the Highlanders family to come together before the start of the new season. It was a family-friendly environment, and we all had so much fun," Maphosa said.

Kaindu is working to rebuild his squad following the departure of key players, including Lynoth Chikuhwa, Peter Muduhwa, Marvelous Chigumira, and Godfrey Makaruse. The club has also parted ways with defender Andrew Tandi and midfielder Brian "Gaucho" Ndlovu.

Kaindu's return to Highlanders in 2024 saw the club finish sixth in the league, a performance he aims to improve in the upcoming season. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set to hold its annual general meeting next month, ahead of the new season's kickoff in March.

Meanwhile, the 2025 season will be officially launched with the Castle Challenge Cup, featuring league champions Simba Bhora and Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos, next Saturday.
