In a dramatic reshuffle, CAPS United has announced a significant overhaul of its technical team, with club legend Lloyd Chitembwe moved out of the dugout and former midfield maestro Ian Bakala returning to the club as the new assistant coach.

The reshuffle comes as a response to the Green Machine's disappointing start to the 2025 season, which has seen them struggle to stay above the relegation zone, sitting precariously in 15th place, far from their usual title-chasing aspirations.

During a press conference on Monday, CAPS United President Farai Jere confirmed that Ian Bakala would serve as the assistant head coach in the revamped technical setup. He also confirmed that Chitembwe, a player who had a significant role in the club's past successes, would be redeployed as the club's new technical director.

"Ian Bakala will serve as assistant head coach in the new technical team," said Jere. "Lloyd Chitembwe remains with the club as technical director. A new coaching structure will be revealed before our Herentals clash this weekend."

The move represents a bold decision by the club's leadership, signaling a change in direction as they look to arrest their poor form. Chitembwe, who guided the club to multiple successes as both a player and manager, is still considered an integral part of CAPS United's future, but the club has decided to remove him from the high-pressure role of head coach. His wealth of experience is believed to be crucial to the team's future, but not in the directorial capacity on the field.

The club's fans, who have been vocal in their dissatisfaction with the team's performance, will be looking for quick improvements as the new coaching team, led by a yet-to-be-announced head coach, begins their work. The club's next match against Herentals this weekend is seen as a critical fixture in their battle to avoid relegation and recover from a season marred by underperformance.

This restructuring marks a turning point for CAPS United, with hopes that the fresh changes will help restore the club to its former glory.
