A sex scandal has stirred controversy in Honde Valley involving Talent Nyabanga, a married woman and member of the Johane Marange Church, who stands accused of having an illicit affair and allegedly confessing to being intimate with her lover at a local graveyard.

The matter was brought before Chief Mutasa's community court last Saturday by Village Head Makabvepi, following a complaint lodged by Nyabanga's father-in-law.

According to Village Head Makabvepi, Nyabanga confessed to having sexual relations with Daniel Matongora at the graveyard, an act viewed as desecration of a sacred site and a source of shame for the community.

"We did not witness the act ourselves. The issue arose after Nyabanga returned home late, and when questioned, she reportedly admitted to being intimate with Daniel Matongora at the graveyard out of fear of being seen," Makabvepi explained. He added that the affair allegedly began at a village party in Murare.

Makabvepi also claimed to have audio recordings of Nyabanga's confession, which her father-in-law used as grounds to seek justice through the community court.

However, Nyabanga vehemently denied all allegations, dismissing Village Head Makabvepi's claims as falsehoods.

"What the village head says is a lie. I was never late, nor have I ever been discussed negatively in family meetings. I have never had any sexual relationship with this man, and we have never been alone together. I do not know where he is getting this information from," Nyabanga stated firmly.

She also addressed rumors about being punished by her church, clarifying that the discipline she faced was due to taking her injured child to hospital, which contradicts the Johane Marange Church's doctrine.

"Our church prohibits hospital visits. My child broke his hand, so I took him to the hospital. Because of that, I was shunned, but this was unrelated to any accusations of promiscuity," she said.

Village Head Makabvepi disputed Nyabanga's explanation, insisting the church shunning was linked to her alleged infidelity, with church leaders from her husband's family's congregation reportedly aware of the situation.

"I don't understand why she is denying it because the church leaders know about her actions. She was almost expelled from the Johane Marange Church," Makabvepi said.

Daniel Matongora also denied involvement, accusing the village head of personal bias.

"This village head dislikes me because I am the village chairman. He is trying to damage my reputation. I don't know this woman, and I have never had an affair with her," Matongora said.

Presiding over the case, Chief Mutasa expressed skepticism over the accusations, particularly questioning how confidential church confessions could have become public.

"The Johane Marange Church keeps confessions secret. How would a village head, who is not a church member, know such details? Also, why is no representative from the Kofi family present today?" Chief Mutasa asked.

He ordered Village Head Makabvepi to present witnesses from the church who allegedly heard Nyabanga's confession, along with testimony from her father-in-law, before the court could establish the facts.

The case was adjourned to May 24 to allow time for the village head to gather the necessary witnesses.
