Struggling Harare giants CAPS United have turned to familiar faces in a bid to steady their shaky Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign, appointing former player Limited Chikafa as the club's new team manager.

The appointment was confirmed via the club's official Facebook page, which featured a photo of Chikafa alongside CAPS United marketing officer and fellow club legend Alois Bunjira. Chikafa replaces Shakespeare Chinogwenya, who has been reassigned to a behind-the-scenes role within the company that sponsors the club.

"Chinogwenya is still with us. He has been part of this team for a long time, so we decided to assign him to a different role," said club president Farai Jere. "He will be working behind the scenes. That is exactly what his new role requires him to do."

Chikafa, who had been serving as team manager at Kwekwe United and also worked as a football pundit for ZTN Sport, returns to a club where he remains a beloved figure among the Makepekepe faithful. His arrival has already sparked excitement among supporters, who flooded social media with messages of encouragement.

The managerial reshuffle is part of a broader rebuilding effort being spearheaded by head coach Ian Bakala. The Zambian tactician, who took over earlier this year, has been vocal about the internal divisions and lack of cohesion he inherited.

"I think I found a lot of things that were not correct, which I'm trying to help the boys with," Bakala said. "When I came, they were looking a bit divided. But now, even in training, you can tell that something is building up, which is good."

He added that instilling a sense of pride and responsibility in the players is central to his mission.

"It takes time for them to know what CAPS United means. But I think they are catching up. There's love now."

CAPS United, once perennial title contenders, have endured a frustrating start to the 2025 season and currently find themselves languishing in the lower half of the table. Bakala has already hinted at significant changes during the upcoming mid-season transfer window, particularly aimed at reinforcing the squad with players who can restore the club's competitive edge.

"When the window opens, I will bring in players who are going to make CAPS United come back to where it belongs," he declared.

As the Green Machine seeks to recapture its lost glory, the return of trusted alumni like Chikafa may provide the spark needed to reignite unity and belief within the squad. All eyes will be on Bakala and his new backroom team as they aim to reverse the club's fortunes in the coming weeks.
