Bosso's McKinnon Mushore goes AWOL

Highlanders midfielder McKinnon Mushore has not reported for training or match duty for over a week, with early signs indicating he may be pushing for a contract review and seeking payment of outstanding dues.

Mushore was notably absent from the squad for the match against Herentals two weeks ago. The midfielder traveled to Harare and informed the club that he was unwell. However, internal investigations reportedly found no evidence that he consulted any medical professionals, raising doubts about his explanation.

The player's situation is reportedly under close watch by an ambitious Harare-based club believed to have a strong interest in securing Mushore's signature.

Mushore remains under contract with Highlanders until December 2026.

Highlanders CEO Kindman Ndlovu confirmed ongoing communication with the player but declined to provide further details.

"The player has not been part of the squad for our last two matches. Mushore reported that he is unwell. He has not yet returned to duty, but we are engaging him and expect him back in the squad soon," Ndlovu said.

Head coach Kelvin Kaindu echoed the cautious stance regarding Mushore's absence.

"McKinnon is one of our best players. Despite missing the last two matches, I'm confident he should be available soon," Kaindu said.

Kaindu also hinted that the club may lose some players during the upcoming mid-season transfer window, which opens on July 1. Highlanders are actively scouting promising young talent to bolster the squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Highlanders currently sit ninth on the Castle Lager Premiership table with 19 points from 14 matches. They trail unbeaten leaders MWOS FC by 11 points, with MWOS on 30 points and Simba Bhora in second place with 26.

Recent form has raised concerns among Bosso supporters, as Highlanders have failed to win in their last three matches - a 2–1 loss to ZPC Kariba, a 1–0 defeat to Herentals, and a goalless draw with Dynamos.

When league action resumes, Highlanders face a tough challenge at Barbourfields Stadium against defending champions Simba Bhora. They will then travel to Mutare to take on Manica Diamonds before concluding the first round of fixtures with a local derby against Chicken Inn.
