Muswere appoints ZBC board

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere has officially appointed the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) board, more than a year after several members began serving in the role.

The 13-member board, chaired by Helliate Rushwaya, was formally endorsed through a Government Gazette notice published on Friday, June 13, 2025. This official appointment comes after some members were initially named as far back as January 2024, with additional appointments made in July 2024 and February 2025.

The delayed official gazetting raised questions as to the prolonged period between initial appointments and formal endorsement. Earlier, respected lawyer Lewis Uriri, who had been appointed to the board, resigned for undisclosed reasons.

The appointments were announced by Information Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana through the Government Gazette, in line with the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act Chapter 10:31. The notice confirmed that the board members would serve a four-year term.

Helliate Rushwaya, the newly confirmed chairperson, will be assisted by Advocate Tapson Dzvetero as deputy chair. Other board members include Chipo Nheta, Henry Mukono, Nannette Silukhuni, Charles Munganasa, Precious Charandura, Thandolwenkosi Nkomo, Sibongile Mpofu, Queen Mpofu, and Among Craig Matambo.

The official appointment marks a significant step for the troubled state broadcaster, which has faced governance and operational challenges in recent years. Stakeholders hope that the fully confirmed board will provide the needed oversight and strategic direction to restore confidence in ZBC's role as Zimbabwe's national public broadcaster.
