A senior ambulance supervisor at Bulawayo City Council has been dismissed following allegations of involvement in a fuel scandal involving nearly 7,000 litres of diesel valued at close to US$10,000.

Peter Dube, 57, faced a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday before a three-member committee, where he was charged with multiple serious offences. Sources close to the matter revealed that Dube was found guilty of misappropriating council fuel, tampering with the speedometer of a service vehicle, failing to produce vehicle logbooks, and gross incompetency.

He was dismissed on the most serious charges and received a final written warning for the remaining offences.

"He couldn't account for litres and litres of diesel, and the logbooks simply vanished. There was also evidence he tampered with the speedometer of a council vehicle to cover his tracks," said a source familiar with the case.

When contacted for comment, Bulawayo City Council Chamber Secretary Mrs. Sikhangele Zhou declined to confirm or deny the dismissal, instead referring inquiries to the Human Capital Director, Mr. Makhosi Tshalebwa.

Mr. Tshalebwa initially stated he had not been briefed on the outcome but later acknowledged that "other processes have kicked in after the conclusion of the case."

Insiders indicate that this fuel loss scandal is one of the largest in recent years within the city's emergency services department. The council is expected to announce further internal audits targeting other departments amid suspicions of additional fuel irregularities.
