Glendale-based traditional healer Peter "Sekuru Nyangatayani" Chingudzi said those who claim to have been advised by tradional healers to rape minors to get rid of the pandemic are not getting it from African Traditional Religion (ATR) but from the dark world.
Speaking during a National AIDS Council meeting in Glendale, chaired by Mercy Mudhombo on Wednesday, Sekuru Nyangatayani said at his shrine they respect the law and welcome HIV/ AIDS patients whom he treats without stigma.
"As tradional healers we do not condone raping of minors as a way of curing HIV/AIDS as believed by many that is the idea of the dark world not traditional healers," Nyangatayani said.
A security officer at the meeting questioned sekuru Nyangatayani on how he is dealing with rape cases of minors in the name of curing HIV/AIDS
"Our duty is to eradicate moral decay, so we work hand in glove with the police. If we hear of these cases, we are quick to inform the police, and we have aided the police to apprehend a criminal who had committed a similar offence recently," he added.
Responding to a health worker who questioned Sekuru Nyangatayani on how he was assisting those with HIV/AIDS when they come to consult, he said he offers counselling and natural remedies to boost their immune system.
"We offer counselling to them, we also supply natural remedies to help boost their immune system and encourage them to take their medication as well," Sekuru Nyangatayani said.
Sekuru Nyangatayani's advisor Zvamaida Karidza weighed in saying hygiene is their priority at their shrine.
"Hygiene is of utmost importance at Sekuru's Dare, and patients are provided with food as well as toilet and bathroom facilities. Razors and other sharp objects are not shared to avoid contamination," Karidza said.
They also offer contraceptives and condoms to their clients, which they get from the Ministry of Health.
