Harare woman arrested for running a brothel

A 23-year-old self-employed woman from Mandara, Harare, has appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court on charges of facilitating prostitution. Tanaka Mushambi is accused of converting a property at 817 Grosvenor Road, Highlands, into a brothel under the guise of a massage parlour between June and August 2025.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the premises became a hub where female sex workers were hired to engage male clients in exchange for payments or rewards. The operation came to light on August 19, 2025, after a juvenile reportedly engaged one of the women through an online platform. The encounter, which involved payment in the form of groceries, was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the women involved, whose trials are still pending.
Mushambi was subsequently arrested for facilitating prostitution and denied bail as investigations continue. The case highlights growing concerns over the use of residential and commercial properties for illicit activities in Harare.
