Tragedy struck Gwanda District on Monday when two siblings were killed after being struck by a vehicle along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Chiratidzo Dube confirmed the incident, which occurred near the 101 km peg. The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Talent Ndlovu and 17-year-old Methembekile Zitha, both from Sizanani Village.

Inspector Dube said the driver, Caetano Ncube, was travelling south in a white Toyota Hilux with no passengers on board when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road, hitting the two pedestrians before colliding with a tree and landing on its roof.

"The pedestrians died on the spot and were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations. The driver sustained a painful right shoulder and was admitted to Gwanda Provincial Hospital," Inspector Dube said.

The matter was reported to Gwanda Traffic, and police attended the scene. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
