The United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) has appealed to investors and stakeholders to help complete the construction of Gazaland University (GU) in Chipinge, which is expected to enrol its first students in March 2026.

GU Council chairperson Philimon Mlambo said in an interview with Chipinge Times that the church has so far used its internal funds to put up basic structures but the project has drained its limited resources over the past two years. He explained that UCCZ suspended other church projects, such as building new sanctuaries or purchasing vehicles for pastors, to channel all resources towards the university.

Mlambo noted that while the church has managed to set up the essential infrastructure, it cannot continue to rely solely on offerings. He urged investors and partners to take up construction of facilities such as lecture theatres, halls, hostels, a chapel, or a clinic, on terms that could include temporary operational rights or naming privileges.

"The vision is for GU to be a community institution, not a private property of the church. We are inviting individuals, families and companies to participate, whether by funding or directly constructing facilities that can later be handed over to the university," said Mlambo.

He added that opportunities exist in student accommodation, staff housing, catering, transport services and health facilities, stressing that those who step in now will be well-positioned to serve the student community when the first intake arrives in March 2026.
