A plot to remove Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at the upcoming ZANU PF national conference has reportedly been exposed, with concerns mounting over the alleged use of youthful party member Tawanda Mukodza as a "sacrificial lamb" by senior party officials.
According to political commentator LynneM, writing on X (formerly Twitter), a group of ZANU PF chairpersons - each allegedly gifted US$100,000 and Land Cruisers - met to strategize on how to outmaneuver Chiwenga, referred to in the post as "Genroll," and remove him from both the party and government.
"They agreed to pass a vote of no confidence against Genroll at the upcoming ZANU PF conference, citing concerns over the decline of relations between the two men and accusing Genroll of betrayal," LynneM posted.
The group reportedly debated who would formally move the motion, eventually settling on Tawanda Mukodza, the Youth Chairman from Manicaland. Mukodza is said to have been chosen due to his perceived loyalty to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his past involvement in the failed Tsholotsho Declaration coup attempt against former President Robert Mugabe.
"Consequently, he was chosen as the sacrificial lamb to move the motion for Genroll's dismissal, with a second from Jabulani Sibanda, who saw himself as a powerful tool to represent the Matebeleland voice and the war veterans," LynneM wrote.
Mukodza reportedly expressed concerns for his safety, but was reassured that he should "simply disappear" after moving the motion. The post raised ethical questions about the role of youth in factional power plays.
"It seemed that the older chairpersons were hiding behind the youngest member in their group, raising the question: why should the young bear the burden for the older generation?" LynneM asked.
"Ana Masimirembwa - Why hide behind Tawanda Mukodza? If you claim Genroll is nothing, then what are you afraid of? Murikutyei?"
The revelations have sparked debate about generational manipulation within ZANU PF and the risks faced by younger members drawn into high-stakes political battles.
